Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
Fertility & Women Wellness Clinic
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is suitable for male with low sperm count, sperm is unhealthy and unqualified for IVF. ICSI picks only the best sperm to fertilize with one ripe egg by placing sperm into the egg. Results are satisfactory. ICSI helps avoid irregular fertilization such as polyspermy.
Treatment procedure
- Egg stimulation by starting injection on the 2nd day of menstrual cycle. Continue for 10 days to stimulate more than 1 ovulation.
- Ultrasound and blood test to see the egg sac size. When the egg sac has grown appropriately, the eggs will be pulled out through the vagina. Male sperm are collected on the same day.
- Embryo farming in laboratory by using a small glass needle to select a strong sperm. Then pierce and inject the sperm directly into the egg for fertilization.
- Fertilized egg is kept in the laboratory for 3-5 days. Embryo will be replaced in the womb and grow into a fetus.
