Embryo Freezing
Sperm and embryo must be stored and frozen under extremely cold temperature for long term preservation. The objective of embryo freezing is to reduce potential twin pregnancy, reduce the excess embryo destroy from each IVF treatment, and increase pregnancy rate.
At BDMS Wellness Clinic we use vitrification method by rapid freezing the egg or embryo solidifying them into glass. Rapid freezing avoids formation of crystalline ice that will harm the egg or embryo during preservation, resulting in more survival rate compared to standard cryopreservation.
Why do we have to freeze the embryo ?
During IVF, eggs are collected and fertilized in the lab. If there are 3-4 embryos too many to place into the uterus, or if fail to place embryo in egg stimulation cycle, embryos will be preserved for next treatment with no need to undergo another egg stimulation.
For sperm preservation, we use computerized temperature control in freezing sperms and stored in liquid nitrogen. Frozen sperms will maintain in shape with high survival rate and can be defrosted for later use. In case of man with sperm collecting problem or not available at the date of egg retrieval or IVF, his frozen sperms will be used.
